BMT plays a pivotal role in Iraq’s development and economic growth, particularly through its project cargo and specialized handling capabilities. Our customer-centric business model has established BMT as a trusted partner with a proven track record in managing project and heavy cargo. These experiences span complex refinery, power plant, oil and gas (both greenfield and brownfield) developments, housing, and other major infrastructure projects.
BMT takes pride in being the terminal of choice for major shipping lines and their agents, freight forwarders, energy giants, EPC contractors, and transporters. As the only terminal in the region capable of handling all types of cargo, BMT has led the market, maintaining the largest market share in yard handling for four consecutive years. Our expertise extends to managing the heaviest, longest, widest, and tallest out-of-gauge cargo, setting records we aim to surpass in the years ahead.
BMT operations are meticulously designed to handle any type of project or general cargo. Quay operations benefit from 800 meters of linear quay space, divided into four berths. Terminal 1 is the largest terminal area in Umm Qasr Port, covering 850,000 m². By the end of 2025, our new terminal expansion will add 632 meters of quay across three berths and an additional 650,000 m² of terminal space.
BMT T1 is engineered with UQ-leading quay and yard bearing capacities of 27 tons/m² and 15 tons/m², respectively, and also features the widest turning radius with no height restrictions, making it ideal for handling out-of-gauge and heavy lift cargo.
The unmatched equipment fleet includes the largest inventory of mechanical handling equipment in the region, featuring 8 mobile harbor cranes capable of discharging cargo up to 200 tons without relying on vessel gear. Yard operations are supported by over 15 reach stackers and a wide range of forklifts and cranes with various capacities.
BMT’s warehousing capabilities are equally exceptional, with six ambient-controlled warehouses offering over 45,000 m² of storage space. These facilities are specially designed to streamline consolidation, deconsolidation, stuffing, and stripping activities while providing secure storage for hazardous, high-value, and sensitive cargo.
All BMT handling operations are conducted using the most efficient methodologies, prioritizing operational efficiency without compromising safety. Our teams comprise a blend of international and local professionals, supported by a dedicated in-house engineering team specializing in out-of-gauge and heavy lifting studies. All operations align with BMT’s advanced operation management system to ensure seamless execution and customer satisfaction.
